My name is Corentin Hery. I am 27 years old and have been living in Canada for more than 3 years. I grew up in the south of France. On top of coming from far away, I have a rather singular life path.
A professional playing career was never supposed to happen for me, largely because of my height. But the discipline of daily training and relentless determination got me there. I reached the professional level as a training partner in Nationale 1 (the 3rd best division in France).
After a traumatic brain injury in February 2020, everything changed overnight. I went from being an athlete with relentless drive to a 21-year-old told there was no coming back, one who was even diagnosed with bone marrow cancer.
"I was given no chance of recovery by the doctors."
Eight months later I was in a wheelchair. Ten months later I had my first respiratory arrest in the arms of my younger brother.
Through every day spent in hospitals, fighting without ever giving up, through 3 surgeries in one year, my determination stayed intact. A new rage to win was born. Three years later, I came out the other side.
This second chance gave me a new goal: help others develop that same determination in their hardest moments. During my time in hospital I worked alongside doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists and mental performance coaches. Lessons learned from the inside, which I now share in conferences on mental health.
Despite everything, I never let go of basketball. My singular path led me to coaching during my final years as a player. That experience let me absorb the knowledge of great coaches and share the court with former and current professionals. Every training technique and every drill helped me extract the best, which I now pass on to those who want to reach their full potential.
Today I carry the brand BVY · Best Version of Yourself, my company offering basketball coaching, strength & conditioning and conferences.
Despite insurmountable trials and unexpected challenges, my journey is a vivid testament to resilience and determination. From the promising athlete facing devastating setbacks to the passionate coach and speaker I have become today, every obstacle has reinforced my drive to push limits. Today I transmit that pursuit of performance to my athletes, on court, in the gym, and through my conferences. Through everything I do, I strive to share that unbreakable determination with those seeking to overcome their own challenges.
My life, marked by illness and physical obstacles, is now guided by a single purpose: to inspire and guide those who cross my path toward victory, whatever the challenge.
